Why Grand Parents?

We all admit that presence of parents are must for growth & wellbeing of a child, but to the utmost surprise whenever mere a word “Grand” gets added to the word “Parent”, we all start evaluating the benefits… Is this any way justified to evaluate whether the parents of the parents are beneficial for upbringing of a child?
